BCBSAZ Medicare Supplement Plans for Medicare Eligible Individuals, Over Age 65

BCBSAZ Medicare Supplement Plans for Medicare Eligible Individuals, Age 65+

Since Medicare alone isn't designed to pay for everything, turn to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ) for a Medicare Supplement plan. Because when it comes to health coverage, BCBSAZ knows how much flexibility and value mean to you.

When you are Medicare eligible at age 65*, 66 or 67 and enroll in a BCBSAZ Medicare Supplement plan, you may receive an early-enrollment discount** on your monthly premium! When you are Medicare eligible at age 65 to 65½, you are automatically eligible for the lower BlueValue rate and an early-enrollment discount. Even if you are past age 65½, you may still be eligible to receive the lower premium BlueValue rate.

You’ll still pay your Part B premium

To be eligible for BCBSAZ’s Medicare Supplement plans you must live in Arizona. In addition to the plan premium, you must continue to pay your monthly premium for Medicare Part B coverage. This Part B amount is usually deducted from your Social Security check.

BCBSAZ Medicare Supplement plans

Senior Security  (Plans A, C, F and N)
Senior Security offers the most flexibility and choice. Unlike some Medicare Advantage plans, there are no “service area” restrictions. You have full Medicare Supplement plan insurance coverage while traveling throughout the United States. You also have the freedom to see any Medicare participating doctor in the United States — even a specialist — without a referral.

Senior Preferred Medicare Select (Plans C and N)
Senior Preferred Medicare Select offers lower monthly rates than those for Senior Security plans, but requires you to use doctors and hospitals in the Senior Preferred provider network (except in emergencies and other limited circumstances). You decide which network physicians you want to see and when.  You don’t need a referral from a primary care physician to see a specialist. And with more than 15,000*** network providers, you’re sure to find a physician who’s right for you. Senior Preferred is available only in Maricopa, Pima, Apache, Cochise, Coconino, Mohave, Pinal and Santa Cruz counties.

* You have a six-month Open Enrollment Period to enroll in a Medigap plan.  It begins on the first day of the month you are both 65 and enrolled in Part B.  If you enroll during this period, you don't need to provide a health history to your health plan.  If you delay Medigap coverage, you may need to provide your health history and could be denied coverage.  Note: If you want to enroll in a Medigap plan and a stand-alone prescription drug plan, you must enroll in each plan separately.

** The early-enrollment discount is reduced annually by 3.2 percent over the next ten to eight years of continuous enrollment, depending on when you enroll. The change in discount occurs in the next month’s bill after your birthday. When your discount no longer applies, you will be charged the BlueValue or Standard rate assigned to your Senior Security or Senior Preferred plan.
